|VA2586||Stampless Soldiers Due with
the Guineys, Va
CDS (somewhat weak strike as is usual with this postmark) with a MAR
date. No rate but identified as a Soldiers Due by the endorsement at
left “from T. M. G.
Inglet Co C 28 Regt Ga Vol.”
Addressed to Mrs Martha A. Inglet, Berzelia, Geo. Vertical pencil slash
mark in the center of the cover is found on other Inglet covers and
most likely applied by the addressee on receipt for an unknown reason. Minor light foxing but still quite
an attractive cover.
T. W. G. Inglet enlisted as a private in Co C 28th Ga Inf on 9/10/1861 and promoted Corporal on 8/1/1863. He was listed as wounded at Gaines Mills (Va) 6/27/1862 losing two fingers on his left hand. He was wounded a second time at Darbeytown Road (Va) 10/7/1864 and was furloughed after his second wound.
