VA2406 CSA #6 Single Use Prior to the Rate Change (margin close at the right) tied by the BLUE Petersburg, Va CDS 28 JUN (1862). Brown paper cover from the Pettigrew Correspondence addressed to Miss Pettigrew, Mount Carmel, Abbeville District, South Carolina. The Pettigrew family of South Carolina was very prominent and included CSA General James J. Pettigrew who led a division at Pickett’s Charge and was killed during the retreat from Gettysburg. Not sure of the relation of this Miss Pettigrew to the General but most likely a niece. Very Fine single use cover just three days before the rate change. $225.00
