| VA2137 | Soldiers Due 10 Handstamp with the Culpeper CH, Va CDS Dietz Type I 8 OCT. Endorsed “from private Charles McCulloch Co E 7th Reft Ga Vol.” Coarse brown paper homemade adversity cover addressed to Mr. William Belish, Decatur, Ga. Charles E. McCulloch (b1843) enlisted as a private 5/29/1861 and was subsequently promoted Sergt. The 7th Ga Inf was part of Anderson’s Brigade, Hood’s Division, Longstreet’s Corps and took part in all the major engagements of the ANV from 1st Manassas to Appomattox including Chicamauga and the Chattanooga and Knoxville Campaigns. According to the records, Sergt McCulloch remained with his unit throughout the entire war surviving the battles with only a slight wound to the hand sustained at The Wilderness and finally surrendering with his unit at Appomattox.
