CSA #9c (T-E-N Gray Blue) (margin just touches at left) pen-cancel and
matching “Lloyds, Va 26th Mar (1864)” manuscript at upper left. Coarse
brown paper cover which appears to be homemade with Military Address to
Capt E. R. Baird ADC Care of Maj Gen Pickett, Petersburg, Va. Edward
Rouzie Baird (1840-1931) served on Gen Pickett’s staff from Feb 1862 until
the end of the war. His letters and correspondence are in the library at
William and Mary, and his memoir of Gettysburg is in the Museum of the
Confederacy in Richmond. Very clean cover.
