CSA Virginia Cover VA2123

VA2123 Soldiers Due 10 Handstamp with the small single rim Rapid Ann Station, Va CDS with the 4 June date in manuscript. Endorsed at upper left “W. H. Clayton Co K 7th Ga Vol” and addressed to Mrs. W. H. Clayton Care of W. H. Clayton Agt G.R.R. & B. Co (Georgia Railroad and Banking Company), Atlanta, Georgia. On arrival in Atlanta, another handstamp Due 10 (Atlanta Arc Due 10 Dietz Type I) was applied possibly as a receiving mark. William H. Clayton enlisted 5/31/1861 and was commissioned 2nd Lt 5/12/1862 and 1st Lt 1/21/1864. He is listed as wounded at Cold Harbor, Va 6/1/1864 but was dropped from the rolls 1/4/1865 for prolonged absence without leave and labled as a deserter. No further record. Cover with some minor light foxing, otherwise Very Fine. $225.00
