CSA #3 (4-Margin Dark Green) tied by the Richmond, Va CDS Powell Type 4a 13 JAN 1863. Adversity Cover made from a printed unused
Ledger Sheet addressed to Mr. M. H. Harris, Rockfish Depot Nelson Co.,
Va. “Circular” in manuscript at upper left to account for the 2c rate with
period docketing also confirming the circular usage “Martin & Cardozo
Circular 1863.” The 2c Green Lithograph used on an adversity cover to pay
a circular rate is a very scarce item. Cover with two side flaps missing but
otherwise a Very Fine appearance with a very nice stamp. Cover is listed in
the Warren 2c Green Lithograph Census and has a PSE Certificate 1997
(Molesworth, Mandel, Green) and is Ex- Wiseman.
