USA Star Die with Post Office Department Official Imprint Chief of the Finance Bureau FREE handstamp with a partial strike of the Richmond, Va CDS Powell Type 5g 11 FEB (1865). Addressed to the Post Master at Staunton, Va. What is unusual about this cover is the fact that it went through the post without an official signature. Unusual period docketting at left “Filed Nov 27 1871” with the initials of the filing clerk indicating that the cover and contents were filed well after the war as part of the archives. Very clean cover with two light vertical file folds and just a little edge wear. Still an overall very clean appearance and certainly a very interesting cover.
