| VA1831A | “Centreville, Va July 11th (1861) Paid 5” all in manuscript. Addressed to Mrs Edwin R. Page, Campbell Ct Ho, Virginia. Usage from Centreville, Va is very scarce as this post office only existed a short time early in the war mainly for army mail. This cover is dated just a short time before the Battle of First Manassas, and Centreville is very close to Manassas Junction. Cover is from Lt E. R. Page Co I 2nd Va Cav to his wife. On the reverse of the cover is a large illustration of the Virginia State Seal with “Jno D. Alexander, Clerk Campbell (County) Clerks Office.” Cover does have a sealed edge tear at top left very near the manuscript and some backflap opening tears affecting the large illustration, but still with an overall very clean appearance and a scarce item. | $300.00 |
