VA1811 CSA #1 Stone Vert Pair Plated as Positions 20, 30 (margin touches along the left side affixed sideways) tied by a partial strike of the Yorktown, Va CDS 30 NOV (1861). Trans-Mississippi usage addressed to Mrs. Carolina E Quirk, New Orleans, La. On arrival in New Olreans, the cover was advertised with the addition of the New Orleans boxed “ADV. .” handstamp Dietz Type I. This is a scarce handstamp and is actually a prewar mark that was adopted by the New Orleans post office for Confederate use by removing the “1” in the original mark and leaving that space blank as the CSA advertised rate was 2cts. Minor corner faults and a small stain at the lower left corner but otherwise a very clean appearance. $750.00
