Chastain White (1823-1879) was a prominent Richmond attorney who served in the Virginia Legislature pre-war and nominated Franklin Pierce for President at the 1852 Democratic Convention. He entered service as Capt and Assistant Quartermaster of the 44th Va Inf 7/11/1861 and was furloughed in February 1862. He later served as a Capt and AQM on the staffs of several Generals including Magruder, Gordon, and Walker. It is recorded that he was charged with stealing a box of money in 1865 while serving on the staff of General Walker. Do not know how that turned out. After the war, he practiced law in Hanover County, Va. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
