VA1581 CSA #1b Stone 2 (4-Margin Dark Green) affixed upside down at the lower right corner and pen-canceled. A bold strike of the Mount Jackson, Va CDS 4 FEB (1862) is at the left lower corner. Orange paper cover with Military Address originally to Mr. Erasmus Flemmings, Martinsburg Berkeley Co., Va Care of Capt Mauk. However, the sender got the names wrong, so the address was amended to Mr. John M. Flemmings Care of Capt Rinker. Private John M. Flemmings and Capt Erasmus Rinker were in Co G 136th Va Militia Infantry which was strictly a local unit. Martinsburg in Berkeley County was later incorporated into the Union State of West Virginia in 1863. Backflap opening tear otherwise Very Fine. $300.00
