VA1577 CSA #12 (AD) (margin close on the left but with a large upper sheet margin) tied by the BLUE Petersburg, Va CDS 2 JUN (1864). Blue paper Adversity Cover made from a used blue lined Ledger Sheet with what appears to be a listing of accounts. Addressed to Mrs. Margaret E. Wheeler, Shiloh Post Office, Sumter District, South Carolina. The sender was Capt Robert E. Wheeler Co H 26th SC Inf writing home to his wife. Not long after sending this letter, Capt Wheeler was killed at the Battle of the Crater 7/30/1864. Both he and his wife are buried at the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. Very Fine. $325.00
