| TX239 | Handstamp PAID 5 with the small double circle Austin, Tex CDS Dietz Type IA 8 JUN 1861 (early usage). Overall State of Texas Department of State Semi-Official cover with the Lone Star Texas State Seal Dietz Type I. Addressed to R. S. Walker and Capt H. W. Raguet, Nacogdoches, Tex. Capt (later Major) Henry W. Raguet was a staff officer on the staff of Gen Sibley during the New Mexico Campaign. Major Raguet was wounded at Velverde and killed in action while commanding the 4th Regiment Texas Mounted Volunteers at Glorieta 3/28/1862. He is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches. The upper right corner of the cover involving a small part of the PAID handstamp was torn off some time in the past and then the original corner replaced and the tear sealed from the back. Still a very clean cover and a very scarce State of Texas overall semi-official design. | $750.00 |
