TN186 CSA #2 Paterson (beautiful 4-Margin Stamp) tied by the Morristown, Ten CDS with a second strike of the CDS to the left 12 OCT (1862). Orange paper cover addressed to Mrs. Louisa Y. Jones, Box 4 Cartersville Bartow County, Georgia. From other covers in the same correspondence, we know that the sender was Capt Thomas F. Jones Co A 16th Ga Cavalry Battalion writing to his wife whom he married in 1860. Capt Jones first served as an officer in the 14th Ga Inf but resigned in Oct 1861. He later joined the 16th Ga Cavalry Battalion which was a Partisan Ranger unit formed in the summer of 1862 and operated mainly in East Tennessee and Western Virginia. Capt Jones was captured as a POW at Blountsville, Ten 9/22/1863 and confined at Johnson’s Island until his release 3/22/1865. There are known POW covers from Capt Jones at Johnson’s Island to his wife. Very Fine Cover and a scarce usage. Ex-Bush General Issue Exhibit. $500.00
