| RT6 | Trans-Atlantic Stampless Cover New Orleans, La to France through New York. This is a folded letter complete (in French) dated in New Orleans 30 JAN 1861 showing New Orleans as the city of origin. New Orleans, La CDS dated 31 JAN 1861 (Louisiana Independent State) with Blue Oval Handstamp at Lower Left for New Orleans forwarding agent J. Leiss. Cover traveled to New York where it received a partial strike of a New York Packet Boat 18 mark 9 FEB 1861, but the strike is partial and presumed to be a PAID mark as the cover was handled by a New Orleans forwarding agent. The Etna (American Packet) carried this cover and sailed that date from New York and arrived at Liverpool, England 20 FEB 1861. Cover was taken by closed mail from Liverpool to France where the French receiving mark is seen on the front of the cover dated the next day 21 FEB 1861. Paris transit mark on the back with the same date and the final French receiving mark dated 22 FEB 1861. Manuscript 16 and handstamp 30 are various foreign credit/debit marks as Trans-Atlantic mail to and from France at this time was very complicated. Very Fine. | SOLD |
