US Mail Service in Confederate North Carolina is a very short period (27-31 MAY 1861). From the Pettigrew Correspondence addressed to William S. Pettigrew Esq, Raleigh, North Carolina.  Very Fine. The Pettigrew family was a prominent North Carolina planter family. William Shepard Pettigrew (1818-1900) was a member of the North Carolina Secession Convention and was the older brother of CSA Gen James Johnston Pettigrew (1828-1863) who commanded Heth's Division at Pickett's Charge (Gettysburg) and was killed covering the retreat from Gettysburg a few days later.
