MS306 CSA #12 (AD) Vert Pair paying a double weight rate (margins tight on three sides and affixed sideways and an opaline color) tied by two bold strikes of a large unframed Grid with the Canton, Miss CDS to the left 6 OCT (most likely 1863).  Orange paper cover addressed to Mrs. Ed. E. Porter, Marietta, Georgia.  Cover appears to have been sent by Capt Edward E. Porter to his wife.  Edward E. Porter was Captain of Co C 2nd Miss Partisan Rangers Cavalry.  He also had service in the 3rd Ten Cav (Nathan Bedford Forrest’s Command), but that unit was disbanded in November 1862. Information on Capt Porter’s service record is sketchy. Minor reduction on the left not affecting anything, otherwise Very Fine and anexcellent example of this distinctive Canton, Miss Grid Cancel. $400.00
