KY30 Soldiers “Due 5” in manscript with the BLUE Bowling Green, Ky CDS 7 DEC (1861). Handstamp DUE 5 applied over the manuscript in transit at Memphis, Ten. Endorsed at upper left “Soldiers Letter Capt Fletcher Co O 1st Ark Bat, Hindman’s Brigade.” Addressed to the soldier’s father Col Elliot H. Fletcher, Osceola Mississippi County, Arkansas. Capt Elliot H. Fletcher Jr., the sender of this letter, was killed at the Battle of Shiloh 4/6/1862. Capt Fletcher’s wartime letters were published in 1963 by the Pulaski County (Arkansas) Historical Society. Elliot H. Fletcher Sr was a merchant and plantation owner whose title of “Col” was honorary and not associated with the Confederate Army. Backflap opening tears but otherwise Very Fine. $1,250.00
