CSA Georgia Cover GA762

GA762
Soldiers Due 5 Handstamp with a partial strike of the Savannah, Ga “Stars” CDS Dietz Type II with the CDS in black and the “Due 5” handstamp in RED 2 MAY (1862). Addressed to Mrs. Penelope Vaughn, Covington, Ga. Endorsed at lower left “W. H. H. Vaughn Bartow Artillery.” “Bartow Artillery” was the nickname of Co A 22nd Ga Heavy Artillery. This unit served on the Georgia coast at Forts Pulaski and McAllister. Some overall light foxing. The cover looks to be all original but has been apparently expertly reinforced with backing for preservation as this Savannah “Due 5” handstamp in red coupled with the Savannah “Stars” CDS is quite scarce.
