Handstamp PAID 10 with the Calhoun, Ga CDS Dietz Type IC 16 OCT (1861). Orange paper cover from the Stephens Correspondence address to
the Vice President in Richmond, Va. Usual summary on the back stating
that the writer is recommending his brother, J. C. Fain of Kershaw’s SC
Brigade for the post of quartermaster or commissary. Apparently he did not
get his wish as J. C. Fain of Co E 2nd SC Inf Kershaw’s Brigade remained
a private throughout the war. Usual missing backflap and slight reduction at
the bottom but otherwise Very Fine.
