Turned Cover -- 1st Use (inside) USA Star Die with the Savannah, Geo “3
PAID” CDS 7 MAR (1861) USA Used in CSA Georgia and addressed to
Miss Berry O. Powell, Milledgeville, Ga. For the 2nd Use (outside), the
cover was puposely cut down a bit and refolded as a smaller cover with a
CSA #1 Stone 2 (4-Margin with a little gum toning at the top edge) canceled
with a RED Grid and an excellent strike of the matching RED Sparta, Ga CDS to the left 5 APR (1862) with a Military Address to Lieut Lafayette
Powell, Savannah, Geo Care of Col. R. S. Taylor 2 Battalion. The unit
was the 2nd Battalion Georgia Reserve Infantry, a Georgia State Unit not
associated with the CS Army. Backflap tears and just a little light foxing, but
still a highly presentable cover with an excellent usage.
