| GA699 | Cover Used Twice - 1st Use: CSA #2 Paterson (4-Margin) tied by the Macon, Ga small double circle CSA 17 NOV (1862). Orange paper cover addressed to Mrs. John McIntosh Kell, Darien McIntosh Co., Ga. For the 2nd Use, a vertical pair of CSA #1 Stone 2 (margins close to touching left and right and plated as Positions 29, 39) tied by the Riceboro, Ga postmark (usual somwhat smeared appearance which is thought to possibly be a stenciled postmark) with date not apparent and to the same addressee with “Darien McIntosh Co” lined through routed back to Macon. Cover appears to be two separate usages (adversity) rather than forwarded or missent as the postmark of the second usage is different from the initial destination, and missent mail was not assessed additional postage. The addressee was the wife of Lt John McIntosh Kell CSN (1823-1900) who was the Executive Officer of the CSS Alabama. Very Fine cover and an unusual double usage. | $750.00 |
