| GA697 | CSA #4 Stone 2 (beautiful 4-Margin stamp) tied by the small Augusta, Ga double circle CDS 23 MAR (1862). This is a legal size cover with the “Augusta Arsenal Official Business” Semi-Official Imprint at the upper left Dietz Type II. This is not a commonly seen imprint. Addressed to Capt J. H. Tiller, Griffin, Ga. John H. Tiller was Captain of the Georgia Echols Light Artillery Battery (this unit is listed as having served on guard duty at Andersonville Prison in late 1864 and early 1865). This is also a Turned Adversity Cover with the inside usage handcarried outside the mails with period docketting indicating that the cover carried the muster roll of the Echols Light Artillery which was just forming at this time. Part of backflap missing and some edge wear and small edge tears, but otherwise a very clean cover. Comes with a detailed history of the Augusta Arsenal. Signed by Brian Green. | $1,250.00 |
