| GA618 | CSA #12c (AD) (4-Margin Greenish-Blue) tied by a full and bold strike of the Snapping Shoals, Geo CDS 29 SEPT (1863) (very scarce Georgia postmark from Newton County). Military Address to Mr. T. H. Stallsworth, floyds Betalion (sic), Atlanta, Ga. On arrival in Atlanta, cover forwarded to Rome, Ga with the addition of the Atlanta Arc Due 10 handstamp Dietz Type I. Often covers forwarded to a soldier were not assessed the forwarding fee, but that does not seem to be the case here. Floyd’s Battalion refers to the 10th Ga Cavalry State Guard, strictly a local unit commanded by Colonel John J. Floyd. Thomas H. Stallsworth was a Sergeant in Company F. Very coarse paper cover which appears to be homemade. The backflap is missing, and there are small edge tears. Four corner mounting stains are present, a gift from a prior collector who apparently incorrectly mounted the cover with scotch tape at the corners. But nevertheless the cover is still very presentable with a nice stamp and a very scarce postmark and showing forwarded usage as well. | $250.00 |
