BE111 CSA #12 (AD) (margin a little close at the right) with a partial Grid Cancel and a handstamp WAY at the left. Coarse brown paper cover addressed to Mr. Sherwood Grady, Albertson’s PO, Duplin Co. NC. The addressee’s son, William H. Grady, was serving as a Sergt in Co C 51st NC Inf. The “WAY” marking is consistent with a mark used at Wilmington NC. This unit is documented as being in the Wilmington area (Fort Fisher) in the late spring and early summer of 1863. Note on back signed by Brian Green. PF Certificate 1981. Confederate marked WAY covers are not common. Only very few of the larger cities used a WAY handstamp such as Richmond, Wilmington, and New Orleans. Very Fine Cover.
