Reid Anderson
(1813-1892), a graduate of West point, was appointed Brig-Gen in Sept
1861
and later promoted Maj-Gen. He distinguished himself in field command
in
Virginia but was wounded at Frayser’s Farm, Va 6/30/1862 and resigned
the service 7/19/1862 after which he gave all his attention to managing
the
Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond. A short biography of the General
accompanies the cover. Cover with a little overall light foxing but
otherwise
Very Fine. Cover originally included in the exhibit to show the
segmented
Pattonsburgh Grid of which there are according to Gen Bush’s research
only
six recorded examples on cover. This cover was used as an illustration
on
Page 50 of Gen Bush’s Fancy and Unusual Cancel book.
