#11 (AD) (4-Margin) tied by a partial strike of the
Chattanooga, Ten CDS 19 OCT (1863).
Very clean small but complete
cover addressed to Miss Ellen M. Wilson, Decatur, Georgia. Cover is
dated after the Fall of Chattanooga to the Union during the time when
the
Chattanooga postmaster was travelling with the Army of Tennesee and
using
the Chattanooga CDS to service the army mail. Known as the Chattanooga
“Rover,” this actually represents an
Army of Tennessee field cancel. Ex-Grant, Ex-Meroni. Cover originally
included in the exhibit to show the
army field cancel usage. This cover was used as an illustration on Page
30
of Gen Bush’s Fancy and Unusual Cancel book.
