CSA #9b T-E-N Gray Blue (4-Margin but a little close at the bottom center) tied by a full strike of the Shelbyville, Ten CDS 20 MAY with a second strike of the same CDS to the right. Coarse brown paper cover addressed to Miss Mattie Weatherly, Munford, Talladega, Ala. Very Fine. Ex-Dietz Collection, Ex-Bogg. Martha Selena "Mattie" Weatherly (1843-1925) married Robert Taylor Conley (1841-1932) after the war. He served as a Lieut in the Thomas Legion NC Inf which was a sharpshooter unit. The unit spent most of the war in East Tennessee. Most likely this cover is from Lieut Conley to the girl he would later marry. After the war, he lived with his wife in Munford, Ala.
