Bailey Clement (1835-1895) entered service as Captain of Co H 10th Va
Cav (a company made up of North Carolina soldiers) in Oct 1861 and
promoted Major in Sept 1863. His later promotion to Lt Col was
“suspended” (reason not stated). Paroled at Salisbury NC 5/1/1865.
After the war, he lived as a merchant in Mocksville NC.
Gen
William Henry Fitzhugh (Rooney) Lee (1837-1891) was the second son of
Gen Robert E. Lee and served as a cavalry commander during the war. He
was captured as a POW by Union forces in 1863 and spent several months
in Fortress Monroe until sent to New York and exchanged in February
1864 for Union General Neal S. Dow. After the war, he was a Virginia
planter and served in the Virginia State Senate and also served at the
end of his life in the US Congress. |
