James
R. Carlton (1795-1888) of Athens, Georgia, is listed on the 1860
Federal Census as a Brick Mason. But he was more than that as his
estate was substantial. He was a very successful cotractor in Athens
for many years. James R. Carlton, who was born in King and Queen
County,
Virginia, was a veteran of the War of 1812 having served as a
corporal in the 2nd Regiment Virginia Militia in that war. |
