CSA Arkansas Cover AR73

AR73
Soldiers Due 10c Handstamp with the small double circle Little Rock, Ark CDS Dietz Type I 23 OCT 1862. Endorsed at the top “From Lt Wright Lamar Artillery.” The unit was the 9th Texas Field Light Artillery Battery which was raised in Lamar County, Texas. Lt Sam Wright sent this cover home to his father addressed to Capt Travis G. Wright, Paris Lamar Co., Texas. Travis G. Wright was a prominent citizen and businessman of Paris, Texas as he was the brother of the founder of the town, George W. Wright. The use of “Capt” in the address was most likely a Texas State Militia rank as he was serving as a militia provost marshall and an assistant quartermaster at that time. Cover is clean but just a little reduced at the right into a small part of the address and the endorsement. This particular Little Rock “Due 10c” handstamp is a scarce mark.
