AL439 Handstamp PAID 10 with the Tuskaloosa, Ala CDS Dietz Type IB 26 JUL 1862.  This is the sans serif Tuskaloosa postmark which is not seen all that often.  Addressed to Mrs. B. B. Lewis, Blount Springs via Selma, Ala.  Overall Green University of Alabama College Cover Dietz Type II without “Tuscaloosa.”  The cover is from Burwell Boykin Lewis (1838-1885) to his wife.  Burwell Lewis attended the University of Alabama and served in the Confederate Army as 1st Lieut of Co B 2nd Ala Cav.  After the war, he lived in Tuscaloosa and entered politics and served as a local representative in the Alabama legislature and later as a representative from Alabama in the US Congress.  Minor reduction at left not affecting anything, otherwise a Very Fine cover. $1,500.00
